Summary of Position:

• The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks qualified candidates to teach courses in both introductory Cultural Anthropology and Physical Anthropology, plus other Anthropology courses in keeping with instructor qualifications and department demand.
• Courses are to be taught in person on Ferris State University's Big Rapids Campus and/or online. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
• The anticipated start date for this position is August 2025.

• Master's Degree in Anthropology.

• Prior teaching experience.
• Evidence of the potential for effective and innovative instructional practices.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:

• Ph.D. or ABD in Anthropology or closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education.
• Experience working with diverse populations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Teach general education and program-required courses in introductory Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, and other Anthropology courses as required by the department and depending on candidate interest and qualifications.
• Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials.
• Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Keep office hours at times convenient for students.
• Meet with classes at their scheduled times.
• Effective teaching by way of good communication, assessment of student learning, and adaptation to various levels of student preparation.
• Carry out teaching and professional development responsibilities under the supervision of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department Chair and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (or their designee).
• Maintaining the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Faculty members also have professional responsibilities that may include continuing professional development; participation in curriculum development and university committees; orientation, recruitment, and registration of students; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
