Under general supervision, Airport Facilities Custodians perform the full range of cleaning and custodial tasks in and around airport buildings. Work involves cleaning and maintaining airport buildings, terminals, facilities, sidewalks, curb areas, parking lots, garage and taxicab holding areas.
The Airport Facilities Custodian position exists to perform various manual labor tasks involving the custodial care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of airport buildings. Responsibilities include inspecting and cleaning public and work areas, cleaning custodial equipment, and restocking custodial supplies; may assist with the training of new custodial employees. Work is normally supervised and inspected by a Facilities Supervisor while in progress and upon completion.

In addition, this position qualifies for a $1000 recruitment bonus paid in three installments at 3 months ($250) six months ($250), and one year ($500).
There is one (1) graveyard shift position open. An additional $2.40 an hour Shift Differential pay is added for any hours worked between 6pm and 6am. Both internal and external applicants will be considered. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week - including holidays. Primary Responsibilities
• Maintain cleanliness of buildings and facilities in area of assignment including airport concourses, lavatories, offices, storage rooms, and parking structure(s).
• Keep restrooms clean by sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, and cleaning floors; disinfect and deodorize lavatories, toilets, and urinals; wash sinks and mirrors; replenish supplies (e.g., toilet tissue, paper towels, etc.); maintain restrooms in a sanitary and clean condition.
• Perform routine custodial and janitorial tasks such as emptying trash and recycling; wash interior and exterior windows; sweep, dust, and mop floors; vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets.
• Clean offices, conference rooms, storage rooms and other areas by emptying trash and re-cycling receptacles; vacuum floors; dust/polish furniture, desks, counters, files, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; replace light bulbs and other fixtures.
• Use and maintain buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
• Identify and report maintenance and repairs throughout assigned areas.
• Maintain adequate supply of custodial materials and equipment to complete work assignments.
• Participate in snow removal by keeping the landside roads, parking areas, ramps and walkways clear using snowplows, sweepers, blowers, and hand shovels.
Required Education / Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent certificate AND one (1) year of custodial experience in a commercial building environment. OR Three (3) years of full-time custodial experience in a commercial building environment may be substituted for the high school diploma.
Required Licensing
A valid driver's license is required at time of application.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Airport Facilities Custodians work on the front line – both indoors and out. They perform the full range of cleaning and custodial tasks in and around airport buildings, terminals, facilities, sidewalks, curb areas, parking lots, garages, and taxicab holding areas. This work includes heavy duty cleaning, including stripping and waxing of tile floors, shampooing carpets, cleaning ceilings, and shoveling snow from sidewalks and entrances. The nature of this work requires the candidate to be able to operate cleaning and custodial equipment - including scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, wet and dry vacuums, high lift, forklift, and snow equipment.
Airport Facilities Custodians are also part of our larger customer service team. This team is dedicated to helping provide the public with a pleasant and safe experience while traveling through the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. All our Airport Facilities Custodians are expected to approach their work with a positive, helpful, customer service mindset. The nature of the work requires one to speak and read English well enough to perform the job's essential duties, while maintaining a safe work environment.
Physical Requirements
• Sufficient dexterity to enable regular use of hands and fingers to operate various types of custodial cleaning and snow removal equipment.
• The ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch down, stoop, crawl, twist, and climb.
• The ability to perform light to strenuous physical/manual labor.
• The ability to use safe lifting techniques to routinely lift/carry/push/pull 25-pound objects and occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Entry Pay Range : $16.11 - $18.94 hourly. An additional $2.40 an hour Shift Differential pay is added for any hours worked between 6pm and 6am. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This is an hourly and overtime eligible position.
