Assistant/Associate Professor of Music

Job Description Summary:

The Music Department at the University of La Verne is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and student-focused Assistant/Associate Professor of Music to join our vibrant academic community. This full-time, tenure-track position begins in Fall 2025 and offers an opportunity to shape the department’s vision for an inclusive and forward-thinking approach to music education.

About the Role:
The successful candidate will teach music courses tailored to their expertise and experience while actively supporting the department’s mission of fostering creativity, inclusivity, and student empowerment. We welcome applicants with broad musical backgrounds and interests, and we are particularly interested in candidates who bring strengths in fields such as:

  • Music theory and composition
  • Music technology
  • Instrumental music
  • Musicology
  • Music Education
  • Jazz/Contemporary Music

This position is an opportunity to mentor and inspire a diverse student body—ranging from seasoned musicians to those exploring music for the first time—and to engage in meaningful community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach music courses in alignment with the department’s needs and your areas of expertise.
  • Develop and oversee ensembles or performance opportunities that reflect your vision and the interests of the student body.
  • Mentor students in their creative and academic pursuits.
  • Actively recruit students from varied musical and cultural backgrounds.
  • Collaborate on innovative, student-centered curricula that prepare students for a rapidly evolving musical landscape.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service, including community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain an active agenda of creative or scholarly work that enhances the department’s visibility and impact.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in music (or ABD with completion by the time of appointment) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching music at the collegiate or equivalent level.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, recruitment, and community engagement.
  • A student-centered teaching philosophy that supports learners of diverse abilities and backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in areas such as music theory and composition, musicology, jazz, or contemporary music.
  • Experience with music technology, music business, or ensemble directing.
  • A strong record of creative or scholarly activity that complements the department’s goals.
  • Proven experience in community outreach and collaboration.

Maximum:
$85,096
Minimum: Asst: $71,004.93; Assoc: $81,726.13

The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee’s total compensation
