Child Development Center Teacher Position

Brief Description of Position:
Provide a nurturing, inclusive educational program for preschool children in order to prepare them to be successful in Kindergarten. Under the supervision of the Director of the Child Development Program, the teacher provides a developmental program based on principles of child growth and development for preschool children.

Roles and Responsibilities:


Children Services

1. Provide teacher guided and child initiated learning experiences in language and literacy, social and emotional development, cognitive and critical thinking, math concepts, science, art and physical education, utilizing the California Department of Education Preschool Learning Foundations. Develop and plan activities for all children that are individualized as well as culturally relevant.

2. Set up and maintain indoor and outdoor environment in accordance with ECERS. Ensure that the environment meets individual, cultural and educational needs of preschool children. Supervise and directly interact with children, families and staff in a warm, positive and professional manner.

3. Integrate children with special needs into daily classroom activities. Collaborate with Special Education consultants to provide recommended appropriate activities. Participate in IEP meetings when necessary.
4. Conduct child screenings/developmental assessments and document observations according to required timeline. Conduct two DROP assessments per year on each child and two Parent conferences based on the results of the DRDP.

5. Develop Individual goals for all children based on developmental screening results, developmental assessment, teacher observations and parent input; update them accordingly with parent or guardian.

6. Identifies special needs of children and secures assistance from other professionals in resolving problems. 

7. Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities offered through the District, Community Colleges and other professional preschool support organizations. Must complete 21 hours of Professional Growth each year.

8. Perform basic attendance, accounting and business services as required.

9. Collaborates with Kindergarten teachers at the site to plan Kindergarten Transition Events between the preschool children and Kindergarten classrooms.

I0. Prepare and implement a weekly Lesson Plan that meets the California Department of Education Preschool Learning Foundations and developmental measures as outlined on the DROP.

11. Monitor and document the progress of each child using a research based assessment instrument or checklist, journal, portfolio and observation report.

12.Keeps and maintains required records such as: DRDP, Parent Teacher Conference, Observations, Meal Counts, Weekly Lesson Plans, Activity Plans, Behavioral Documentation.

 

Family Services

1. Schedule regular conferences with parents to discuss child's progress.

2. Involve parents on a regular basis in the classroom and in planning various activities. California Department of Education CDC Division requires a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) support by each classroom teacher.

3. Regularly engage parents in daily conversations regarding their child's development and learning.

4. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including written communication.

5. Interprets the preschool program to parents and community. Opens the classroom and attends the Fall Orientation and Spring Open House.

General Duties
1. Insure a safe and comfortable environment for children. Develop and implement safety plan and emergency procedures. Conduct fire drills and earthquake drills on a monthly basis and keep records of these activities.

2. Assist in providing meals as scheduled throughout the day.

3. Supervise preschool children directly, including activities inside and outside of the classroom, to ensure the health and safety of children. May administer first aid or medications as required by a physician.

4. Create stimulating and aesthetically pleasing learning environments in the classroom and outdoor play areas.

5. Comply with child abuse reporting.

6. Perform other duties as necessary to ensure program compliance to community Care Licensing and to maintain high quality services to all children and families.

7. Visually observe Assistant Teachers, substitutes, volunteers and supervise them in techniques and practices of working with children and families.

8. Keep classroom and playground safe and free of hazards. Maintain equipment and materials that are age appropriate and safe for children's use.
