PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of this job is to assist the Workers Compensation legal department by managing smaller cases from start to finish, attending court hearings, negotiating case outcomes as well as providing technical support to attorneys. The Certified Law Clerk conducts trial related legal research and drafts legal documents among other job duties. This role requires independent judgement and discretion in determining the best course for cases. The Certified Law Clerk works under the direction of a supervising attorney.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages litigation and claim disputes as they apply to workers' compensation claims.
Prepares documentation necessary for assigned cases.
Provides subject matter expertise in the litigation aspect of workers' compensation claims.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role does not have supervisory responsibilities. May provide direction to support staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) required. Currently enrolled in a J.D. program at an ABA accredited law school. Completion of at least one full year of studies (typically a minimum of 270 hours) and passed the first-year Law Students Exam (if required by the institution). Some legal experience (paid or volunteer work) highly preferred. Some familiarity with Workers' Compensation a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification as a Law Clerk in California.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Interest in learning workers compensation litigation. Proficient with the use of a personal computer and skilled in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, PowerPoint, EAMS, and litigation management systems. Knowledge and use of general office equipment such as scanners and copiers. Familiarity with business legal principles. Demonstrated experience working independently under minimal supervision, maintaining a strong work ethic, and exercising initiative. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to read and understand legal materials. Ability to keep information organized and confidential. Ability to effectively present information, verbally and in writing, including English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Strong organizational abilities, time management, and aptitude for learning new skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete timely. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in an office and court environment and requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, scanner, and other standard office equipment.

The current range for this position is
$86,247.55 - $145,450.54This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
