Child Watch Attendant
Department: Parks, Recreation & Community Services
Reports to: Guest Services & Operations Supervisor
Job Type: Part-time, Temporary
Are you passionate about working with children and creating a fun, safe environment for them? Join our team as a Child Watch Attendant and play an essential role in providing quality care for children while their parents enjoy our recreation facilities.
This is a part-time, temporary position, and work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on department needs.
About the Role
As a Child Watch Attendant, you'll be responsible for supervising children in the Child Watch area of the Recreation Center. Your primary focus will be ensuring their safety, well-being, and enjoyment while their parents use the facility. You'll also have opportunities to assist with front desk operations, community programs, and special events.
This role involves interacting with families, community members, and other staff, making it a great fit for someone who enjoys working with people and creating a welcoming environment.
What You'll Do
Supervise child drop-off and pick-up to ensure safety and proper check-in/out procedures, including verifying parental identification.
Engage with children in fun, age-appropriate activities such as arts and crafts, games, music, and more.
Provide basic childcare (e.g., assisting with diaper changes, cleaning up, attending to individual needs).
Create a positive and engaging experience by interacting with children and fostering a welcoming environment.
Keep the play area clean and sanitary at all times.
Communicate with parents or guardians regarding their child's needs or concerns.
Attend staff meetings and assist with additional duties as needed.
What We're Looking For
Skills & Abilities:
Friendly and patient with children of all ages.
Ability to engage and supervise multiple children at once.
Strong communication skills for interacting with both children and parents.
Understanding of child development and basic childcare.
Ability to work independently and make safety-conscious decisions.
Customer-service-oriented with a welcoming and helpful attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years old (if under 18, parental/guardian consent to work is required).
High school diploma, GED, or current high school enrollment.
At least 6 months of experience working with children, preferably in a childcare or teaching setting.
American Red Cross Babysitting Certificate (or ability to obtain one).
At least 6 months of customer service experience.
Ability to pass a background check.
Must obtain Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification before starting.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role involves active movement—you'll be walking, sitting, standing, and occasionally running to engage with children. You'll also need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds when assisting with children or setting up activities.
While the job is mainly indoors, you may occasionally work in outdoor conditions. The noise level can range from quiet (when working at the front desk) to moderate/loud (when supervising children in play areas).
