Primary Purpose: The Custodial Equipment Repair Technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining custodial equipment, replacing, installing and repairing restroom dispensers as needed. Order repair parts as needed. Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled on all custodial equipment.


Qualifications: 
Education/Certification: 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates or technical school degree in electronics or related field from an accredited college, university, or technical school recognized by the US Department of Education.
  • Degree may be substituted for an equivalent combination of applicable education, training, and experience as approved by HR.
  • Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record.
  • Must have ability to clear a criminal background check along with a drug test administered upon employment and be subject to random drug testing.


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment in the repair of custodial equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, record keeping, delivery, and inventory control procedures.
  • Knowledge of health and safety code requirements.
  • Skill in operating, maintaining, and repairing a variety of custodial maintenance equipment 
  • Skill in reading and understand repair manuals, invoice orders, and supply requisitions and other related documents.
  • Skill in repairing commercial grade kitchen equipment and operating hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Skill in operating truck/van.
  • Skill in the use of computer/iPad to utilize the work order management system (SchoolDude). 
  • Skill in basics mathematical calculations, data entry, and detailed numerical/clerical work. 
  • Skill in processing service transactions with a high level of data accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple projects to meet specific deadline.
  • Ability to comprehend complex systems and technical information and explain effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions. 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.

Experience:  

  • Two years experience in maintaining and repairing custodial equipment. 
  • Must have mechanical and electrical aptitude.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain, repair and adjust a variety of custodial equipment as requested on approved work order request.
  • Keep records of all custodial equipment inventory at the campuses assigned.
  • Perform general custodial maintenance duties including emergency after hour services such as water extraction, emergency delivery of equipment to buildings etc.
  • Minor flooring removal and repairs.
  • Record all repairs on work orders in SchoolDude management system.
  • Accomplish job assignments in a prompt and efficient manner. 
  • Collaborate with other district departments to maximize efficiencies, effectiveness throughout the repair, maintenance and service process. 
  • Assist in training custodians in maintaining and operating custodial equipment. 
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. 
  • Occasionally perform unrelated tasks as directed by the Operation Business Director and Supervisors.
  • Compile and maintain an accurate inventory of all custodial equipment at each facility. 
  • Observe and comply with all legal and defensive driving practices. 
  • Wear an approved Humble ISD maintenance uniform and ID badge while on duty, and return all uniforms prior to your last day of employment with Humble ISD.
  • Respond to service calls in a timely manner as directed by work orders or supervisor. 
  • Maintain accurate parts inventory. 
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records. 
  • Assist with safety related services. 
  • Ensure that assigned test equipment, tools and other materials are properly maintained. 
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.


Safety:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. 
  • Must adhere to all guidelines set forth on SDS (Safety Data Sheets) when handling chemicals.
  • Must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing any task which could cause injury or illness.
  • Take necessary action immediately and report any condition which could cause injury or illness.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing, etc.
  • Must wear district issued uniform while at work.
  • If you accept the $100 district voucher for Safety shoes, you will be required to wear safety shoes throughout the work shift. Safety shoes shall provide steel toe protection and have a slip resistant sole. If an employee terminates employment with Humble ISD prior to 90 day, he/she will have the $100 (voucher for safety shoes) deducted from final paycheck.

  • Compile, maintain, file, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Maintain documentation log of all battery replacement and cleaning as required.
  • Maintain documentation of all work completed including inspection reports per site as needed.
  • Follow safety standards and conform to state, federal, and local regulations.

  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with coworkers, supervisor, District officials and employees, vendors, outside agencies and organizations.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Maintain good judgment and decision making when dealing with supervisor, co-workers, District officials and employees, and outside agencies and organizations.

  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information when received and distributed to appropriate designees as directed by the Supervisor.

Equipment used: Testing and repair equipment, hand and power tools laptop/iPad. Operate a light truck or van.

  • Frequent contact with parents, community, and/or other district/campus employees.
  • Noisy environment.
  • Possible exposure to chemicals.
  • Requires performing tasks mostly standing, some walking, bending, stooping and sitting.
  • Lifting of heavy objects. 
  • Ability to utilize ladders and lifts. 
  • Work outside and inside, on uneven or slippery walking surfaces, on ladders and lifts, around equipment with moving parts.
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular work hours to include working nights and weekends--flexibility with schedule preferred.
  • May be “On-Call” 24/7 to respond to repairs as necessary in area of responsibility.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
