Job Description

A Well known editorial and entertainment brand is seeking a contract Editorial Researcher. The editorial researcher ensures the accuracy, fairness, and suitability of published content by verifying statements of fact, historical details, and data across magazine articles and special projects.

  • Hybrid, Washington DC
  • Onsite Mon-Thurs, Remote Fri
  • Rate: $33 / hour

Responsibilities:

  • Research and substantiate all factual content, including text and captions, using reputable sources.
  • Identify and address factual inconsistencies while maintaining the writer’s tone and style.
  • Collaborate with editors, writers, photographers, legal teams, and subject matter experts.
  • Communicate with experts in governmental agencies, academic institutions, and industries to verify information.
  • Anticipate research needs and assess potential legal issues such as liability, bias, plagiarism, and copyright.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in editorial research.
  • Strong language skills with a solid grasp of grammar, word usage, and writing style.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate problems and propose solutions concisely.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InCopy and Microsoft Word.
  • Foreign language skills are a plus.
  • Interest in the magazine’s subject matter and ability to quickly grasp new topics.
