We are seeking an experienced ETL Engineer for the Wisconsin Health Data Hub (WHDH), recently funded by the EDA as part of the Tech Hub ( initiative, and drive transformative data science projects to enhance healthcare and research at SMPH.

We are seeking a skilled Azure ETL Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining ETL processes using Azure Data Factory and other Azure services. This role requires a deep understanding of data integration, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to support data-driven decision-making.


On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent could expect to engage in the following activities in supporting researchers that use WHDH services:

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes using Azure Data Factory and other cloud based tools.
• Extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes.
• Collaborate with data architects and analysts to understand data requirements and ensure data quality.
• Optimize ETL processes for performance and scalability.
• Monitor and troubleshoot ETL processes to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
• Implement data validation and error handling mechanisms.
• Document ETL processes and data flows.
• Stay updated with the latest Azure services and ETL best practices.

Responsibilities:

Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science techniques, and presenting the results. May work independently or as part of a team.

• 30% Prepares data sets for analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources
• 15% Independently identifies and implements appropriate data science techniques to find data patterns and answer research questions chosen by the lead researcher including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining
• 10% Organizes and automates project steps for data preparation and analysis
• 10% Composes and assembles reproducible workflows and reports to clearly articulate patterns to researchers and/or administrators
• 15% Documents approaches to address research questions and contributes to the establishment of reproducible research methodologies and analysis workflows
• 20% Develops and optimizes data pipelines to ensure data quality and reproducibility in research

Education:

Preferred
Master's Degree
Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Epidemiology, Informatics or related field preferred.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Proven experience as an ETL Engineer or in a similar role
• Proficiency with Azure Data Factory and other Azure data services
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred:

• Experience with other Azure services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure Databricks
• Familiarity with big data technologies and tools
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell

Full Time: 100%


This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $85,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
