Kitoi Bay Hatchery is a large and diverse Pacific salmon production facility (215 million pink, 36 million chum, 2.3 million coho and 850,000 sockeye salmon eggs) located on Afognak Island. This is a remote site approximately 25 miles north of the city of Kodiak, accessible only by floatplane or boat.
Duties include a variety of remote salmon hatchery tasks relating to freshwater and saltwater rearing of fry and smolt, juvenile transfers, adult salmon handling and egg collection, incubation and egg care, cost recovery, and general facility upkeep. Please call if you want to find out more!
An interest or experience in fisheries, biology or related field. Maintenance or boat operation experience is desirable but not required. Employees must be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds for distances of up to 100 yards. This is a blue-collar type of position and will be labor intensive. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, work cooperatively in groups, or individually with little supervision. Must be capable of living in a remote setting with limited amenities. Must enjoy the outdoors!

Room and board provided; seasonal employees reside in a dorm-type bunkhouse with communal kitchen and living areas. Amenities include regular mail/freight service, phone, satellite internet, satellite TV, and exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities (fishing, hiking, and hunting) in the Kitoi Bay area.
