Peraton is seeking an experienced Flight Test Engineering Technical Specialist to support our government aviation program. The Flight Test Engineering Technical Specialist will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing flight tests for various aviation systems. This position requires expertise in flight test planning, execution, and data analysis to ensure the safety, performance, and mission-readiness of aviation platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aviation systems, flight test operations, and technical support for flight testing within a government or defense context.

Examples of duties include but not limited to:

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of flight tests for aviation systems, including aircraft, avionics, flight controls, and mission systems. Develop detailed flight test plans and protocols, ensuring that objectives, performance criteria, and safety standards are clearly defined and achievable. Collaborate with engineering, operations, and program management teams to ensure proper coordination of test schedules, resources, and safety procedures.
  • Provide technical support during flight test operations, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the approved test plans. Coordinate with flight crews, engineering teams, and safety personnel to ensure that flight tests proceed smoothly, and issues are addressed in real-time. Monitor flight test activities, document test results, and provide on-site technical support during test operations.
  • Oversee the collection of flight test data, including flight performance parameters, system behavior, and environmental conditions. Analyze data from flight tests to evaluate aircraft systems, performance, and compliance with requirements. Prepare detailed flight test reports, summarizing results, highlighting key findings, and providing actionable recommendations for system improvements.
  • Ensure all flight test activities comply with relevant safety standards, regulatory requirements, and program guidelines. Identify potential safety risks or technical challenges during flight tests and work with the team to mitigate these risks. Support post-test debriefs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions for future tests.
  • Support the integration and troubleshooting of new or modified aviation systems during flight tests. Collaborate with systems engineers and technicians to resolve technical issues related to aircraft systems and flight performance during testing. Recommend improvements to systems based on flight test data and operational feedback.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for flight test plans, procedures, and test results. Prepare and deliver technical presentations and briefings to senior leadership, stakeholders, and government agencies. Document lessons learned, best practices, and technical insights gained from flight tests.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, pilots, and operations personnel, to ensure that flight test objectives are met. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior flight test engineers and support staff. Participate in training sessions for flight test operations, safety protocols, and new system integrations.
