Job Description

In the role of Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor, you will be pivotal in upholding the highest standards of food safety and quality. You will lead a team of FSQA Technicians, ensure adherence to regulatory and customer standards, and spearhead continuous improvement efforts to achieve excellence in our bakery operations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food regulations at international, national, state, and local levels, including Food and Drug Administration guidelines, local health department inspections, and Preventive Controls.
  • Maintain adherence to the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards applicable to the bakery location (e.g., BRC, SQF).
  • Oversee documentation control and the maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS), including procedures, records, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Plan.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to uphold the safety, legality, and regulatory compliance of food products and processes within the bakery.
  • Work with various support departments to enhance bakery performance (e.g., maintenance, sanitation, warehouse, operations).
  • Understand the Critical to Quality Control Points (CTQCP) of manufactured products to improve operational performance and ensure quality standards are met from the outset.
  • Implement customer requirements effectively and support the bakery team in reducing customer and consumer complaints through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technicians, including their training, development, and clear objective setting to fulfill bakery needs.
  • Collaborate with the FSQA Manager to develop a talent training and skills matrix for FSQA technicians.
  • Act as a trained backup for the FSQA Manager during regulatory, customer, and third-party audits.
  • Ensure materials are sourced from approved suppliers and monitor raw material supplier performance according to specifications.
  • Investigate product/process failures swiftly and thoroughly, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize product exposure and production downtime.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance technology and innovation to improve departmental effectiveness.
  • Manage relationships with both intra- and inter-departmental colleagues and suppliers to achieve departmental and company-wide objectives.
  • Oversee other supervisory responsibilities, including labor budget management, performance evaluations, hiring, disciplinary actions, coaching, training, and termination recommendations.
  • Accountable for department key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Trained in the Environmental Monitoring Program and swabbing techniques.
  • Actively lead and participate in fostering a food safety culture within the bakery, with a clear understanding of the SIFIRI (See It, Fix It, Report It) program, which includes regular communication, education, events, and employee recognition initiatives.
  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment, conducting activities safely and reporting unsafe conditions to the appropriate management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, with the expectation of effectively managing and executing changes as the FSQA Manager.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent experience in the food industry is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in food industry manufacturing or quality assurance, including supervisory experience, is required.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of comprehensive experience in food processing and quality management.
