Join Our Passionate Team at The Study at University of Chicago - We're seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Hotel Controller !

As the Hotel Controller, for a full-service property, you will manage our property's daily accounting functions with a hands-on approach. This position is deeply involved in critical data entry and day-to-day financial operations, providing crucial support to ensure our property runs smoothly. Responsibilities include managing accounts payable and receivable, income auditing, general ledger functions, and cashiering, all while delivering accurate financial data to the General Manager and Home Office. This is an onsite position, and relocation assistance is not provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hands-On Financial Management : Directly oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, income auditing, general ledger, and general cashiering.
  • Day-to-day Operations : Prepare and own month-end reporting, cash flow projections, budget preparations, and all daily financial transactions within the hotel and restaurant.
  • Detailed Reporting and Analysis : Collaborate closely with the General Manager and Home Office to review and validate financial performance, including income, expenses, and earnings projections - ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead the Budgeting Processes : Partner with the General Manager to prepare the annual budget, facilitate meetings, and incorporate feedback from all department leads.
  • Financial Oversight : Review revenue adjustments, vouchers, invoices, and orders, ensuring proper authorization and sound financial stewardship.
  • Vendor and Compliance Oversight : Ensure timely payments to vendors, compliance with tax and regulatory obligations, and manage all related contracts.
  • Collaborative Departmental Support : Partner with department heads on purchase orders, cost controls, revenue enhancement initiatives, and monthly reporting requirements.
  • Implement Standards and Policies : Ensure home procedures, policies, and brand standards are met across all accounting functions.
Qualifications  
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a similar hands-on, data-driven role within hospitality, with advancement to management. A strong background in Property Management, POS, and Accounting systems is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with a solid understanding of the Uniform Systems of Accounts for the Hotel Industry and tax regulations.
  • Communication & Organization: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities.
