OPB’s Summer 2025 Internships  

We’re seeking 3 students/recent graduates who have an interest in journalism. OPB is committed to creating career pathways for traditionally underrepresented individuals in public media organizations and these internship opportunities are in support of this. These are paid internships, you will earn $19.23 hourly and spend 10 weeks from 06/23/2025 through 09/01/2025 in a full-time learning, hands-on environment based at our OPB office in Portland, Oregon. 

 

Internship Details  

Jon R. Tuttle Internship  

In memory of Jon R. Tuttle, a respected Oregon broadcast journalist, OPB created the Jon R. Tuttle Diversity Internship in 1994. Its aim is to inspire broadcasters and journalists who can enhance diversity in public media.  This is a producer-focused internship in which you’ll gain hands-on experience in video journalism with the Science & Environment team. We’re seeking someone with basic experience producing and writing for video. Responsibilities include research, writing, and office tasks as well as field production work. The internship involves outdoor work, including hiking and carrying up to 30 pounds of gear in various weather conditions. 

 

Eligibility: 

  • The applicant must have racial and/or ethnic origins as defined by the EEOC (American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, or two or more races. 
  • Must be enrolled at a college, university or community college while participating in this internship. 

 

Emerging Journalist Internship  

The OPB Emerging Journalist internship offers underrepresented individuals in public media a hands-on learning experience in a collaborative newsroom. Interns work on the daily radio show “Think Out Loud®.” Responsibilities include research, guest coordination, and social media, as well as web and social media writing. The selected intern will also receive membership in professional organizations for mentorship and learning. The internship offers a valuable opportunity to build a portfolio, network, and learn in a fast-paced newsroom environment.  

 

Eligibility: 

  • Open to anyone with a strong interest in public media and journalism. Enrollment in college or university is not required. 

 
Maynard E. Orme Internship:  

The OPB Maynard E. Orme Internship focuses on news and public affairs, offering Production Assistants (PAs) a chance to customize their internship role with senior editors. PAs work on audio journalism and digital content, completing a major project involving radio production and reporting. 

 

Eligibility: 

  • This internship is only open to University of Oregon, School of Journalism and Communication students or recent graduates (Fall 2023 or later)
