This full-time position, scheduled from 7:30am - 4:00pm, will report to the Mail Services Team Leader.



What you will do:


As a Mail Services Assistant, you will operate a variety of mail processing machines, including equipment for addressing, labeling, sealing, and postage metering, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. You'll manage postage systems while maintaining compliance with USPS regulations; sort and process mail, and provide courier services for timely mail and package distribution. As a Delivery Driver, you'll pick up and deliver mail and packages to campus departments, including handling bulk mailings and using tracking systems to log deliveries. You'll also transport outgoing mail and provide special handling services for materials that need extra care.



Mail Services Assistant Duties (50%)

  • Operate mail processing machines: Use a range of equipment, including addressing, labeling, tabbing, inserting, tying, strapping, shrink-wrapping, sealing, and postage metering machines. Ensure accurate processing and efficiency to meet operational demands

  • Manage postage systems: Maintain and monitor postage meter deposits and oversee bi-weekly or monthly audits. Ensure accurate departmental billing and compliance with USPS regulations

  • Sort and process mail: Handle incoming and outgoing mail, preparing it to meet both university and USPS requirements, including preparing USPS accounting forms for various mail classes

  • Handle special mail categories: Manage business reply, postage-due mail, and outgoing international mail, ensuring proper accounting and compliance with carrier standards

  • Provide courier services: Deliver mail and packages between the Production Center and on- and off-campus locations, ensuring timely and accurate distribution

  • Other related tasks: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the team leader to ensure smooth mailroom operations



Delivery Driver Duties (50%)

  • Mail and package pickups: Collect mail and packages from the U.S. Post Office for distribution to campus locations

  • Mail and parcel deliveries: Deliver sorted U.S. and campus mail or parcels to departments following established delivery schedules

  • Bulk mail handling: Transport outgoing bulk mailings to the Lewisburg Post Office, ensuring timely submission for processing

  • Use tracking software: Operate package tracking systems to log deliveries and ensure accountability for all transported items

  • Special handling services: Provide additional handling and delivery services for materials requiring extra care

  • Other related tasks: Support department operations with additional duties as assigned by the team leader

We are looking for people with:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully and safely drive and park oversized vehicles in an environment with heavy pedestrian traffic

  • Ability to operate computers in a network environment using standard administrative applications such as e-mail and Microsoft office applications, and proprietary specialized mail processing applications

  • Strong communication skills and the demonstrated ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service skills, and a commitment to a collaborative team based work environment

  • A critical thinker with the ability to work well under pressure is essential

  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a background check, including a motor vehicle driving record, upon offer of employment

Who may also have (preferred):

  • Postal regulation knowledge

  • Delivery driver experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to routinely lift packages up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds with help or mechanical assistance

  • Ability to walk 7 to 8 miles daily, and carry mail and packages up and down numerous flights of steps

  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to noise, dust, and fumes, and use personal protective equipment as required

  • Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
