Job Description

Summary: 
This seasonal position performs work functions associated with custodial, groundskeeping and general maintenance tasks of the Parks and Recreation Department properties. 

What you’ll do: 

• Assist Bargersville Parks & Recreation in maintaining clean and beautiful parks and greenways 
• Assist with general maintenance tasks on Bargersville Parks and Recreation grounds, trails, woodland areas, restrooms, picnic shelters, playgrounds, facilities and parking lots by performing manual work tasks including: 
• Cutting limbs, removing fallen trees, pruning, trimming, mulching, blowing and raking leaves and debris 
• Planting and watering shrubs, trees, and grasses 
• Maintaining parking areas and trails 
• Reporting faulty equipment 
• Perform routine cleaning and restocking of restroom facilities 
• Including spraying cleaners, scrubbing and wiping down fixtures, mopping, and sweeping 
• Monitor for proper function of lights, locks, doors, sinks and toilets 
• Monitor outdoor recreational areas including picnic shelters, trails, parking lots and playgrounds for waste and debris 
• Use blowers or brooms to remove vegetation and debris from various surfaces 
• Monitor and report safety concerns or hazards such as uneven surfaces or storm damage 
• Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of other employees, volunteers and the public 
• Operate vehicles and equipment used in park maintenance such as trucks and UTVs 
• Assist and support staff with special events and program activities 
• Complete other duties as assigned 

What you bring: 

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 
• Must have and maintain a verifiable Indiana Driver’s License, a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the Town’s liability insurance carrier 
• Must have basic knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and ability to understand information from various sources to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
• Must be able to multi-task 
• Must be able to work a moderate pace 
• Ability to work independently and take initiative 
• Ability to interact and communicate in a positive, professional manner with team and public 
• Ability to operate a variety of tools associated with park maintenance operations such as a blower, mower, hedge trimmer, pruning shears, shovel, rake and hand tools 
• Ability to learn quickly and efficiently 
• Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and arms 
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl 
• Work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold, and near moving mechanical parts 
• Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
