Position Summary The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio), in its pursuit of becoming a model for student success, a great public research university, and a champion for San Antonio's prosperity, seeks a dynamic and student-centered leader for the role of Professor of Practice. This individual will lead efforts in academic and programmatic development for the EdD program, in collaboration with faculty. This is a 12-month faculty appointment and will be responsible for teaching 3 classes per semester (3/3). The successful candidate will blend direct teaching with core academic advising and will contribute to the strategic development of student success initiatives. They will collaborate closely with ELPS faculty, graduate success coaches, and university support services to foster a welcoming, high-touch, and transformative doctoral experience.
Salary : $60,000 annualized plus compensation for serving as Graduate Advisor of Record (GAR).

Student Success & Proactive Advising
- Implement a proactive advising model to monitor student progress, identify academic and non-academic barriers, and connect students with appropriate interventions and resources.
- Provide consultation and guidance on dissertation development and time-to-completion strategies.
- Teach three courses per semester within the ELPS curriculum, including core courses in leadership, and/or research methods, based on program needs and candidate expertise.
- Serve as the Graduate Advisor of Record (GAR) which oversees and approves graduate students' academic progress, course selections, and degree plans. The GAR serves as the primary point of contact between the graduate student, the College, and the Graduate School to ensure compliance with institutional policies and works together with the student's thesis/research advisor and committee to ensure all program and degree requirements are met.
Program Development & Academic Contribution
- Champion the use of transformative pedagogical and mentoring practices within their own teaching and advising.
- Provide input and feedback on curriculum development and program improvement efforts in collaboration with the ELPS faculty.
Collaboration & Strategic Partnerships
- Partner with the Student Development Specialist (SDS) to ensure a seamless and supportive student experience for their assigned cohort.
- Collaborate with faculty advisors and department leadership to support the consistency and effectiveness of doctoral mentoring and advising.
Data-Informed Assessment & Support
- In partnership with the department's leadership team, assist in monitoring data on student retention, progression, and completion.
- Provide insights and reports on student needs and trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Utilize assessment findings to adapt advising and teaching practices to support the success of all student populations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications - An earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership, Higher Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in higher education, with a significant focus on graduate student support, academic advising, program administration, or a related area.
- A record of successful teaching at the graduate level, preferably in online or hybrid formats.
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges and development processes of doctoral students, particularly practitioner-scholars in education.
- Proven experience in supporting student success initiatives that impact retention and completion.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience chairing or serving on doctoral dissertation committees.
- Experience with data analysis and program evaluation.
- Experience with curriculum development for professional doctoral programs (an understanding of the CPED principles).
- A record of scholarship or professional practice that aligns with the mission of UT San Antonio's ELPS department.
