Job Description

As a School Based Mental Health Therapist, you will provide compassionate care to school-aged children struggling with mental health concerns by providing support for student Individualized Education Program’s (IEP) and Behavioral Intervention Plan’s (BIP).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all school and Hillcrest personnel policies.
  • Work with school teams to address mental health and behavioral challenges.
  • Report daily to assigned school setting.
  • Complete and conduct diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, and authorizations as required by insurance payers.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy in school and home settings
  • Maintain consistent and ongoing communication with families to provide updates on clients' progress.
  • Determine DSM-5 diagnoses and use evidence-based treatment methods
  • Meet weekly billing and documentation expectations.
  • Conduct workshops and classroom management consultations for teachers and parents on early warning signs of mental health disorders.
  • Implement student curriculums on stress management, suicide prevention, and substance abuse.
  • Conduct universal screenings for early identification of mental health issues and participate in school support teams to promote student wellness.
  • Administer the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) and other assessments.
  • Document and maintain accurate client contacts, referrals, and necessary information
  • Must respect cultural diversity and integrate family values into treatment.
  • Complete and review treatment and crisis plans regularly. Apply crisis management skills as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive client records.
  • Comply with state and federal confidentiality regulations.
  • Maintain monthly statistics and reporting requirements
  • Participate in case reviews, treatment team meetings, and organizational meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, and/or a related field.
  • MUST have an active License in the District of Columbia (LGPC, LGSW, LPC, LICSW)
  • Proficient communication in English required; Spanish or another language preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations and knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulation.
