Job Summary:

Sr Software Engineer - Disney Cruise Line

We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!

This role sits in the Disney Cruise Line Onboard Applications organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It works closely with Product Management and Engineers from across the company. 

The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Manager, Technology – Onboard Applications.

About The Role & Team:

  • The Onboard Guest Fulfillment Team is responsible for over 30 onboard applications that allow Crew Members to assist the guest experience.  This includes the property management system, point of sale, embarkation, onboard activities, door locks, dining and more.
  • This role will work specifically with the Embarkation Application but will need to have the ability to work across multiple teams.

What You’ll Do:

  • May lead small projects encompassing analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related computer programs
  • Responsible for performing testing and debugging of applications
  • Code may be used in commercial and end-user applications or focus on software and tools supporting infrastructure and technology platforms
  • Code at the component level
  • Work typically involves large or highly sophisticated software programs and systems
  • Possess a proven understanding of current programming language and technologies, with strong skills in writing code and completing programming tasks
  • Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications
  • Conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software components, fixes, improvements, and/or new systems and applications
  • Design and develop highly scalable software systems and applications
  • You will be expected to stay up to date with emerging technologies

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience
  • Mastery in Java and/or Node.js and experience with industry standard opensource technologies like; Spring, Tomcat, Nginx, Elastic Search, etc
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment
  • Proficiency in Software Engineering, with a proactive demeanor towards continuous learning and skill development, and an interest in mastering emerging data engineering tools and methodologies
  • Understanding or willingness to learn Flutter
  • Experience with full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
  • Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins/Gitlab CICD and Docker
  • Experience with Agile Delivery (Stand Ups, Sprint Planning, etc)
  • Enjoy working in a team setting with engineers of varying experience.
  • Be able to work well with external partners and contractors.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Expertise designing APIs and building RESTful services.

  • Knowledge Of
    • Kubernetes, Rancher
    • SQL, Oracle
    • Cloud-hosted services like AWS, Azure
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Monitoring and logging tools Grafana, App Dynamics, Log Insight, Splunk • Git and version control
    • Agile software development methodologies
    • Performance tuning
  • Software architect with experience working on mid to large size modular software projects.
  • Proven expertise with architecture and delivery of high volume, cached, fault tolerant, multi-threaded scalable systems.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ Years Experience

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
