Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Vice President of Research and Development (R&D) to lead a forward-thinking team focused on innovation and transforming the higher education landscape. This is a remote, full-time position designed for a strategic leader who will help shape the future of education by driving research initiatives that support working adults and meet the needs of employers.
As the VP of R&D, you will oversee the development of cutting-edge solutions and strategies that bridge gaps in the workforce by leveraging research, technology, and design. You'll lead efforts to improve educational practices and contribute to the development of programs that are accessible, equitable, and impactful for students. You will collaborate with stakeholders across various sectors, from education to industry, to drive innovation and economic mobility.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & R&D Development
Lead and develop the R&D team with clear goals and performance metrics to meet institutional objectives.
Cultivate a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team.
Develop and implement R&D strategies that contribute to educational and workforce innovation.
Work with senior leadership to align research efforts with organizational priorities.
Innovation & Solution Development
Conduct student-centered research to identify and develop new educational offerings that address workforce needs.
Use data and research findings to inform the design and delivery of educational programs.
Scale successful models and strategies to tackle the most pressing challenges in workforce development and education.
Labor Market & Industry Insights
Create frameworks for analyzing labor market trends and employer needs, ensuring that research efforts align with real-world workforce challenges.
Engage with employers to ensure that research outcomes reflect industry demands and enhance student outcomes.
Data Strategy & Planning
Oversee the development and use of data and analytics to inform research and innovation efforts.
Ensure that data and research support the broader strategic goals of the organization.
Thought Leadership & External Engagement
Represent the organization as a thought leader in the field of education, research, and innovation.
Build partnerships with industry, philanthropic, and academic organizations to advance the organization's mission.
Share research findings through various platforms to influence the broader education and workforce development community.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
7-10 years of experience in innovation, strategic design, product development, or R&D-related roles.
Preferred
5+ years of experience in human-centered design, innovation, or related fields.
Expertise in user research, rapid prototyping, service design, and systems design.
Skills and Attributes
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
Expertise in innovation design, human-centered design, and digital transformation.
Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
Ability to synthesize and communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
Experience with data analysis and using insights to drive change and improvement.
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment.
Working Conditions
This is a remote position, though occasional travel for meetings or events may be required.
Must be comfortable using digital communication tools and working independently in a remote setting.
Ability to work in a sedentary role for extended periods, using computers and other office equipment.
