How You’ll Make an Impact

We are seeking a full-time, entry-level Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our Northern California environmental compliance team. This role supports the delivery of stormwater-focused environmental compliance services to public and private-sector clients. The Specialist will gain hands-on experience in stormwater permitting, field monitoring, and environmental documentation, working under the guidance of experienced team members.
This position offers the opportunity to grow technical skills while contributing to environmental protection and compliance across diverse infrastructure projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), compliance reports, and permit applications.
  • Help interpret stormwater regulations and permitting requirements under the NPDES program.
  • Support project teams in complying with federal, state, and local stormwater and water quality regulations.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to assess erosion control measures, BMP implementation, and stormwater management practices.
  • Collect and document field data related to water quality, erosion, and sediment control.
  • Support senior staff in conducting construction-phase compliance inspections.
  • Assist in drafting compliance documentation, monitoring logs, field notes, and summary reports.
  • Help maintain organized records in support of permitting and inspection efforts.
  • Contribute to environmental documentation in support of CEQA, NEPA, and Clean Water Act compliance as appropriate.
  • Support coordination with internal project managers and external construction teams to ensure clear communication of stormwater requirements.
  • Participate in meetings and field briefings to build familiarity with regulatory workflows and client needs.
  • Stay informed on stormwater management practices, permitting requirements, and regulatory changes.
  • Engage in training and mentorship opportunities to develop technical knowledge and field experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources, Geology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of related academic, internship, or professional experience in stormwater, permitting, or environmental compliance.
  • Interest in stormwater regulations, construction compliance, and erosion control.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in a variety of environmental conditions and terrains.
  • Must either possess Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) credential or have the necessary qualifications to receive a QSP credential within 6 months of hire date.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SWPPP development, BMPs, or NPDES permitting.
  • Experience collecting environmental field data or conducting site inspections.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations such as the Clean Water Act or NEPA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with GIS is a plus.

Compensation: $30.00-$34.00 hourly*

  • *Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.

  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job requires occasional site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.

  • Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
  • This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with government agency representatives, members of the public, and others. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
