Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform the duties of Public Health Program Specialist 3. This position is responsible for site and user enrollment and access, help desk functions, fulfilling user and partner requests, developing and deliver training materials and sessions for users of the IIS, recommending and implementing IIS revisions, promoting use of the IIS, functioning as a working supervisor, and collaborates with other staff and stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction of the Immunization Information System (IIS) Administrator, provides primary direction in the centralized operation of the IIS.
  • Provide consultation and training to IIS users to assure that features and functions are understood and utilized to address their needs and to ensure that reporting procedures are consistent with CDC requirements, and other state and national guidelines and requirements.
  • Assist publicly funded vaccine and assessment teams by suggesting and executing regular revisions and updates to the IIS, aimed at improving vaccine program operations, coverage initiatives, and epidemiological functions.
  • Serves as a working supervisor.
  • Conducts and organizes promotional and educational activities for local health departments, hospitals, schools, daycare centers, colleges, universities, health insurers, and other healthcare institutions to provide information about IIS-related initiatives.
  • Coordinates with programmatic and technical IIS staff, Immunization Section personnel, other IDPH and State of Illinois staff, and various partners to ensure the seamless operation of the IIS.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in health education, physical and biological sciences.
  • Requires three (3) years professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health or a related discipline.
  • Two (2) years of experience in managing immunization information systems or electronic health records.
  • Two (2) years of experience in developing, presenting, and conducting training on complex topics for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • One (1) year of experience in data management and analysis, ideally within a public health or healthcare context.
  • One (1) year of experience working with healthcare organizations and other relevant stakeholders.
  • One (1) year of experience in supervising team members.
