Position Summary/Description:
The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineeringat the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for a Scientific Laboratory Manager that will play a crucial role in the Biomolecular Engineering lab (Sode lab), primarily focusing on the development of biosensing technologies based on the creation of biosensing molecules. The Scientific Laboratory Manger organizes and directs the daily activities of the laboratory and is responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, including graduate students and undergraduate students, by providing guidance and supporting, coordinating research, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, interpreting lab results, managing budget, preparing pre- and post- grant research reports and grant applications.
This position is responsible for performing complex research experiments and managing laboratory members. The Scientific Laboratory Manager will develop independent research plans and oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all activities align with the lab's research objectives. This includes writing research protocols, organizing and ordering lab supplies, and training and supervising lab personnel to maintain a high standard of research quality and efficiency. In addition to managing the lab's operational aspects, the Scientific Laboratory Manager will utilize specialized skills to contribute to the success of ongoing research projects. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of research environments. The Scientific Laboratory Manager will also be involved in fostering a collaborative atmosphere within the lab, encouraging team members to engage in innovative research practices and share knowledge effectively. The position is full-time, with a standard work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The Lab Manager will be expected to maintain a balance between administrative duties and hands-on research activities, ensuring that the lab operates smoothly and efficiently. This role is integral to the mission of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, which aims to o unite engineering and medicine to improve lives.Education and Experience:
PhD in biotechnology, biomedical engineering and relating area.
Research activities and skills in the following research topics; biomolecular engineering based enzyme and binding protein design, simulation and recombinant preparation and biochemical characterization. Construction and characterization of electrochemical biosensors with recombinantly prepared biosensing molecules. Design and conduct animal experiments to evaluate the performances of biosensors for in vivo monitoring. Research mentoring experiences of graduate and undergraduate students/visitors from foreign countries. Scientific and administrative communication in Japanese. Post Doctoral Research Associate experiences at least for more than 3 years, with solid records of research activities in the area of biomolecular engineering and biosensor.Essential Skills:
