Job Description

Generalist (Core Lab) position rotating through all departments: blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, basic microbiology and urinalysis. Performs manual and automated routine blood tests. Prepares specimens for microscope examination. Operates laboratory equipment and performs a variety of tasks. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. Requires graduation from an accredited MLT/MLS program and passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within medical laboratory field. 3 months experience preferred.

• One of the following certifications is required for Medical Technologist: CLS (NCA), MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), or MT (AMT)
• Recent graduates from approved programs within the last 6 months must be certified within 12 months after hire
• For ASCP certification after 2004, must maintain active credential status to maintain employment
• For AMT certification, must maintain active credential status to maintain employment
• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or closely related science and successful completion of a CAHEA approved program in Medical Technology
• Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills are relevant to this area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, and patients and their families
• The ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision in order to independently carry out the duties of the position
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Basic computer knowledge; LIS and HIS
• The ability to perform routine and specialized laboratory procedures
• The ability to work under stress in order to perform effectively in the position
• Demonstrates flexibility and initiative in workflow management
