Job Description

Job Summary

CalPortland is seeking a summer intern for the Corporate Engineering Group. This internship is ideal for a student interested in mining engineering and offers a unique opportunity to travel to various CalPortland cement plants throughout the summer. The intern will gain hands-on experience working on heavy capital projects, maintenance projects, and mine development projects. This role provides exposure to aggregate, ready-mix, and cement operations, along with the latest technology in mining and construction.

Compensation

$19.50-$26.00/hr DOE

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required Safety and MSHA training, as well as site/job-specific training.
  • Practice and uphold all Safety training and Company policies in the workplace.
  • Work alongside reliability and project engineers on various tasks.
  • Assist in mine development projects. 
  • Support the setup and implementation of Caterpillar's latest software systems.
  • Conduct routine housekeeping and maintenance of facilities.
  • Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as needed.
  • Perform plant tasks as assigned.

Education

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with drafting software, preferably AutoCAD.
  • Strong attendance record and punctuality.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Capability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurance, and the ability to be insured to drive company vehicles.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the summer.

Preferred

  • Prior experience or an internship in the construction or building materials industry.
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar software systems or other mining-related technologies.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
