Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Pharmacist/MTM Manager and the Pharmacy Managers, the Pharmacy Technician MTM is responsible for assisting in improving population-based and patient-specific medication-related outcomes through collaboration with the CHC providers. Responsible for assisting pharmacists in filling prescriptions; billing of prescriptions to third parties; collecting payments from patients and maintaining drug inventory.
Primary Responsibilities and Specific Duties:
Pharmacy Technician MTM:
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with improving population-based and patient-specific medication-related outcomes through collaboration with the CHC providers.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with medication reconciliation, patient education, acute and chronic disease/therapy assessments, and developing and implementing pharmaceutical care plans.
- Review records from prior visits to evaluate current medication therapy.
- Provides medication treatment plans to providers as approved by the Pharmacist/MTM Manager.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with performing comprehensive medication reviews to identify, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems, including adverse drug events.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with providing medication therapy management summary reports to patients and providers as appropriate.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with developing strategies to enhance patient medication adherence.
- Coordinates and integrates medication therapy management (i.e., education and training) services within CHC.
- Monitors HEDIS/STAR-related reports and attends related meetings.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with evaluating the appropriateness and cost-effectiveness of high-expenditure drug therapies.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with communications to providers and staff regarding savings opportunities available by utilizing CHC pharmacies.
- Maintain knowledge of drug formularies.
- Assists the Pharmacist/MTM Manager with providing recommendations for more cost-effective therapeutic alternatives.
- Address pharmacy-related notifications in EMR.
- Assist with MTM student scheduling, onboarding, training, and integration into CHC operations.
Pharmacy Technician:
- Participates in site meetings to address patient care and operational requirements, including one-on-one communication.
- Prescriptions - (Data entry) Enters patient information including insurance coverage and prescriptions in the pharmacy software.
- Submits insurance claims and follows up on rejections.
- Types labels neatly and without error.
- Counts and measures medications correctly.
- Billing & payments from customers & third-party
- Completes cash and insurance transactions accurately.
- Figures cost & pricing of prescriptions correctly.
- Collects payments from patients &/or family members and provides receipts.
- Supplies and inventory
- Cleans and maintains supplies in the pharmacy.
- Receives vendor orders; brings orders to pharmacy; signs invoices documenting receipt, checks incoming drugs and stock drugs for current dating.
- Completes inventories in an accurate and timely manner.
- Initiates and corresponds with 3rd party insurers regarding qualifying information and follows up with possible inclusion and setup for all pharmacy sites.
- Corresponds with 3rd party insurers regarding drug rejections, reversals, additions, and inquiries regarding reimbursements.
- Assists with pharmacy compliance to applicable statutory requirements (DEA, Board of Pharmacy) and compliance with accreditation standards (AAAHC).
- Initiate contact with providers to obtain corrections or clarification of prescriptions.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- One year of retail experience is preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician MTM certification preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
Certification/Licensure:
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
- Certified as a Pharmacy Technician by PTCB or NHA or must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
- A current Florida Driver’s License is required.
Special Skills:
- Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
Other Requirements:
- Able to work flexible hours and sites as needed on short notice.
- Required to travel to all CHC locations.
